It seems that Asus is getting serious about fashion. We already described Asus VX1 Lamborghini laptop to rival Acer’s Ferrari. But Taiwanese manufacturer is not content with it’s number 2 spot and has moved a step ahead with the introduction of it’s S6 ultraportable leather clad laptop. Yes, you read it right, this notebook is covered in leather! Available from mid April through retail channels it will come in light, dark, white and pink colors.

According to S6 laptop designer Markus Wierzoch Asus engineers worked for more then a year to perfect the technology, which is protected by 20 patents. They had to develop a special glue to keep leather in place for the lifetime of a notebook. Each leather coating is hand pressed with unique texture before it is applied to the laptop. The leather is covered with protective materials which reduce staining and outside damage, but will not prevent aging giving the laptop even more unique look as time goes by. Each Asus S6 notebook will come in a special presentation box with stylish protection bag and leather coated USB mouse.

But it’s not only about the looks. Asus S6 laptop has the specs that places it at the top of the line among currently available ultraportables. This leather clad notebook comes with new Intel Centrino Duo chipset and has 1GB of memory, 100 GB hard disc and multi format CD/DVD recordable drive. Since it is in the ultraportable class, the screen is not big, but it incorporates Splendid Video Intelligence Technology, which adjusts each individual pixel based on external conditions. And Asus adds ZBD (Zero Bright Dot) Policy, which offers free screen replacement if you are able to find even a single bright dot on it.

So what’s next? Well, Asus says that it is working on wood covered desktop PC. We say bring it on! We really could use more design innovation with these grey boxes in our living room.
