Fujitsu took its time - more then a year - with it’s first UMPC offering. But instead of having a simple UMPC, they decided to build on their Tablet PCs/Convertible notebook experience. And produced something really interesting - Fujitsu U Series Tablet Convertible UMPC.

Fujitsu Lifebook U8240 is the first of the devices to use this design. It is built on “Intel Ultra Mobile Platform 2007″ and features:
- Intel A110 (800 MHz) CPU
- 5.6″ 1024×600 Widescreen display/touchscreen
- 512MB-1GB DDR2 SDRAM
- 20GB HDD
- 100BASE-TX Ethernet
- Wi-Fi a/b/g
- Built-in fingerprint reader
- Thickness 26.5 mm
- Weight 580g
- up to 4 hrs battery life with standard battery
- up to 8 hrs battery life with high capacity battery
- add-on port replicator with external CRT, LAN and USB ports
Fujitsu FMV Lifebook U8240 seems to address the key issues that plagued the first generation UMPCs - short battery life and awkward keyboardlesss navigation.

The sales of Fujitsu U8240 will start in mid June and it will come in 2 configurations.Fujitsu U8240 with 512MB RAM will cost 144K JPY ( 1195 US$), with 1GB RAM version coming in at 164K JPY ( 1361 US$).
