Toshiba Portege R500 ultra slim ultra-portable notebook is already generating rave reviews all around the tech world.
But soon Toshiba R500 will get even better with full 3.5G HSDPA upgrade. Some sources have originally hinted that 3.5G HSDPA equipped Portege R500 may come out in Q4, just for the Christmas season.
Now it looks like that may happen earlier, since Toshiba Portege R500 notebook with a installed Cell-PCS radio module supporting GSM, GPRS, EGPRS, WCDMA and WCDMA+HSDPA has already been approved by FCC.

Apple stumbled on an iPhone idea while experimenting with a multi touch interface for a possible tablet device. And while most of Apple’s work with touch has been focused on an iPhone since then, it does not mean that Apple abandoned the idea of bringing touch interface to traditional computing devices such as iMac desktops or Mac Book laptops.
The latest Apple patent filing is a case in point. It shows that Apple is working to implement multi touch interface in a … mouse.
Yes. As in computer mouse with multi-touch interface:

The multi-touch mouse will be made with a transparent top shell, will have illumination source inside to illuminate the shell and a camera to record the images when top shell is illuminated. When user grips the mouse, points or multipoints of contact are imaged as points of light due to reflection, while other areas are imaged as dark areas. By analyzing sequential images, characteristics associated with the one or more points of contact can be used to drive inputs.

Fujitsu Lifebook U8240 has certainly been an interesting development for the UMPC market. By transferring the the functionality of a Tablet PC into a UMPC form factor, Fujitsu has solved some serious ergonomic and familiarity issues that stifled the adoption of first generation UMPCs.
Only now Fujitsu looks almost drunk happy with it’s achievement and just doesn’t know how to name it. First it was Fujitsu FMV Lifebook U8240. Now it’s Fujitsu U1010 in Korea and Singapore. Oh and it’s Fujitsu FMV-BIBLO LOOX U50WN in Japan. I wander how will it be named whenever it reaches European and American shores….

I wonder how did Microsoft decide on the date to announce their secret, 5 years in the making, Milan TableTop PC?
After all, last Wednesday (May 30), was just like any other day. So why then?
Wasn’t it because a very interesting Microsoft patent, called “Function-oriented user interface” was about to become public the very next day?
The application was published on May 31st and is covering a lot of touch user interface things shown in the Microsoft TableTop PC presentation.

After Dell broke the ice and started officially shipping Dell Ubuntu Linux laptops, we decided to take a look how they stack up against laptops produced by specialized Ubuntu notebook vendor - System 76.
The conclusion - things does not look too bad for System 76.

So far Dell is selling only one notebook - 15.4″ Dell Inspirion E1505N - with Ubuntu Linux preinstalled. The comparable notebooks from System 76 fall under Pangolin series line.
